The English National Programme (ENP) at the Cite Scolaire in Ferney Voltaire was founded in 1974. Today it has 924 students (Primary = 380, College = 309, Lycee = 235).

The ENP offers a unique and enriching educational experience for students, aiming to develop them into confident and successful learners who can apply their skills in future studies and work. Testimonies from former students highlight the benefits they derived from their time in the ENP. While striving for the best academic results, the programme also emphasises the importance of collaboration, teamwork, and independence.

A key aspect of the ENP is its bicultural approach, which can be initially tricky for students to navigate (due to different approaches to academic writing compared to the French part of the school), but that is ultimately seen as complementary. The programme actively encourages students to reflect on their progress and plan for improvement. Recognising that a significant portion (up to 40%) of students are not from anglophone homes, the ENP emphasises that all exposure to the English language means progress and access to an international future.

The ENP provides a wide array of activities to encourage active participation in the life of the section. At the primary level, these include annual class performances, Sports Day, World Book Day costumes, and theatre workshops and outings. Creative challenges such as building models for History-Geography and Shakespeare performances in primary classes are also integral to the programme. Secondary students can engage in clubs such as the Library and Newspaper clubs, a bilingual Maths club, and a film club. The section also accesses local resources, like English theatre productions, to enhance the curriculum. Residential trips, such as the History Geography trip focusing on WW1 sites and the European Parliament, offer valuable learning experiences. Lycée students have the opportunity to participate in the International Duke of Edinburgh Award and drama-based visits to London and Stratford-upon-Avon.

The ENP also organises various cultural and educational projects and events beyond trips and clubs. These include the annual ASIBA poetry competition, cake competitions, and poster and bookmark competitions. The programme also actively supports FerMUN, a bilingual Model United Nations club that provides invaluable local and international links by organizing conferences hosted by prominent organizations in Geneva. ENP lycée students account for around 40% of participants in FerMUN and take a number of leading roles.

Attending an international section offers numerous benefits for students. It provides a great blend of two cultures and fosters integration with people from diverse backgrounds, preventing students from being isolated from the local community in an “expat” bubble. Smaller class sizes (average 19) allow teachers to provide more individually tailored attention and adapt their teaching to meet the specific needs of each student. Despite a potentially heavy workload, the ENP's BFI programme (Baccalauréat Français International) is highly valued and acts as an academic “door-opener” to universities not only in the UK but also in other anglophone and international destinations such as Ireland, France, Switzerland, the Netherlands, USA, and Canada. Alumni often feedback that they are well-prepared for the demands of higher education.

The dedicated team of University counsellors plays a crucial role in guiding students towards their future academic paths. The ENP also celebrates student achievements through award ceremonies and a Leavers’ Celebration for Terminale students, fostering a sense of community and accomplishment.
